Guru Nanak Jayanti

India has always been a cultural and religious country. The Gurus havingroots in India have given a spiritual message to mankind for their welfare. Whenever mankind starts moving towards darkness by wandering in ignorance, then a wise man comes to this earth to show them the way with the light of his knowledge and vision . In such a situation, Guru Nanak Dev descended on this land.

The organizationwas started by Guru Nanak Dev to show the path of peace and truth to the people, was initially named Nanak Panth and later it became famous as Sikhism and Khalsa Panth. Guru Nanak was a religious saint of the fifteenth century, a revolutionary reformer, a great era builder, a staunch patriot, a benefactor of the oppressed, and a visionary national builder.

Guru Nanak was born on Kartik Purnima in 1469 in a village called Talwandi, near Lahore, which is now called ‘Nankana Sahib’. This place is now in Pakistan. Guru Nanak’s father, Kalu Chandra Vedi, was the manager of the Rajput ruler of Talwandi. Guru Nanak’s elder sister was called Nanaki because of her birth at maternal grandfather. According to his name, people started calling him Nanak.

Guru Nanak was a person of genius and extraordinary personality since childhood. Since childhood, Guru Nanak used to sit like sages and sadhus and talk like them. He loved solitude. He used to go into solitude and get absorbed in meditation. At the age of eight, he was sent to study. He used to talk greatly, but he did not feel like reading and writing.

When Guru Nanak grew up, his father wanted to engage him in some kind of domestic work. His father asked him to take care of farming but he did not feel like doing farming.

One day his father sent him to Lahore with some handy money and a group of sadhus were going on the way. He saw that the monks were hungry. He thought father had asked him to get a good deal with the money. What can be more important than feeding a hungry person? So he spent all the money on feeding the sages and returned home empty-handed.

Despite many efforts by Guru Nanak’s father, there was no difference in Guru Nanak’s behavior. His tendency did not seem to be in household work. He loved the company of sages. He did not return home for several days. One day he left the house completely and joined a Satsang.

He used to go from place to place and recite Satsang to the people, whoever came in contact with him became his disciple. His father sent a singer named Sardana to explain and bring him back, but Guru Nanak also needed a singer for bhajan kirtan. As soon as Sardana came in contact with Guru Nanak, he became his disciple and he himself never went back.

It was very difficult to travel long distances in those days. Guru Nanak’s mind yearned to remove the sufferings of the oppressed. He used to go to the people and talk about human welfare. He knew that ignorance is the cause of human suffering.

That’s why they used to travel long distances to spread knowledge. He spread his knowledge by going to every nook and corner of India. On the fourth trip, he went out of the country to Balochistan, Mecca, Medina, and Baghdad. People of every religion, every class, every caste who came in contact with him during these journeys became his disciple. Guru Nanak’s long travels in the East, West, South & North are known as the “Four Udasis” and he is known by different names in different countries, in Sri Lanka he is known as Nanakacharya, in Tibet Nanak Lama, in Sikkim & Bhutan Guru Rimpochea, in Nepal as Nanak Rishi, in Baghdad as Nanak Peer, in Mecca as Vali Hind, in Misar as Nanak Vali, in Russia as Nanak Kadamdar, in Iraq as Baba Nanak, in China as Baba Foosa and in Mazahar Sharif as Peer Balagdam.

According to Guru Nanak Ji, God is one, He is present in everyone’s conscience, so his vision can be seen in the soul and it’s pointless to seek him. In his first sermon he said “Na ko Hindu Hai, Na ko Musalman Hai. (Neither there is any Hindu nor Muslim).He was blessed with the Divine Vision. The True Message was revealed to him.

Through spiritual practice, man can see God in his heart. Only by truth, non-violence, friendship, brotherhood, honesty can we move towards that path. He believed that love is the highest form of existence in the world and God exists in the form of love.

Unleash the campaign of your heart. Purify your heart. Remove deceit, lies, dishonesty, etc. from the heart. These are the teachings of Guru Nanak on which Sikhism rests. In the last days of his life, he started living in Kartarpur. He had appointed his beloved disciple Lahna as his successor in the name of Guru Angad during his lifetime itself. In 1539, at the age of about 70, Guru Nanak changed his cloak (he went to heaven). His messages and ideals guide us even today to live a complete life and There are 974 Shabads (hymns) in 19 Raags were included by Guru Nanak in Guru Granth SahibJi where his immortal messages are scripted for forever.
