Journey of the Dream to Fly
As we continue to learn about the various systems in aircraft, we often wonder what makes the aircraft fly.
Yes we have discussed before about airfoil, however we sometime do wonder what makes an aircraft turn and make other movements. In next 3 editions we will know more about these movements and aircrafts parts involved.
Aircrafts primarily make 03 types of movements based on the 3 axis.
- Pitch- A pitch motion is an up or down movement of the nose of the aircraft (lateral Axis)
- Roll- A roll motion is up and down movement of the wings of the aircraft (Longitudinal Axis)
- Yaw-A yaw motion is a side to side movement of the nose of the aircraft (Normal Axis)
Lets watch a video to understand the 3 axis and associated movement.
In this edition we will talk about Pitch motion of the aircraft.
Pitch motion is a motion along aircrafts’ lateral axis. It gives a nodding movement to aircraft ie. The nose moving up and down.
The primary control responsible for this movement is called the elevator or ailerons.
Let’s understand the functioning by the following videos
In the next edition we will learn more about Roll motion of the aircraft…………
